Metaphor, Not a Metaphor

a dance performance by Julyen Hamilton and Maria Pisiou

A series of memories criss-crossing through the park

The bench and the seated ones, like the memory in the mind

A foggy day - a foggy night -

A series of conversations,

words and answers

Investigations without crimes

A bell in the sunlight

casting light upon a wall full of notes

archives spread like paper

flat amidst the howling of time.

A thought

a walk

an action

and then another action

faster than thought.

.

.

Please

and remember.

Metaphor, Not a Metaphor is an instant composition dance performance dealing with the fluidity of memory. By using text, movement, and objects, the performers compose instant memories at the time of the performance and let them exist in the space (through time) in order to deconstruct, reconstruct and, finally, mess them up. Gradually, the dynamic, fluid, and fragile(emotional) experience of memory is delineated.

Creation, Performance: Julyen Hamilton, Maria Pisiou

Premiered at 12th Athens Video Dance Project, December 2021, Athens, Greece
