In The Witchraft Room

durational performance

The durational performance ‘In the witchcraft room’ is the final outcome of an artistic residency with the performance artists VestAndPage within the context of my Master studies. The performance deals with the physical state and action of exhaustion, boredom, obsession, and repetition. The performer repeats one specific intimate and everyday action; that of cleaning and soiling. Giving the promise that things have to be continued even if when the performer is exhausted, and as Malone, (the hero of Samuel Becketts’s play “Malone dies”), repeatedly insists ‘In order not to die, you must come and go’, the time and space is created for the performer to denude additional layers. Approaching the body as an onion, consisted of different layers, invisible thoughts, memories, stories, desires, hidden thoughts start revealing gradually through exhaustion and repetition.

The performance space was shared with the artists Fernanda Gonzales Morales and Penelope Morout with whom we curated the overall dramaturgy of three durational performance pieces around the same topics.
