Special thanks to all the dancers, actors, movers who participated and investigated with us for the creation of Rebetiko performance

The performance Rebetiko was created in the context of an Erasmus+ residency programme titled “Cultural Education Through Dance and Theater”, in August 2017 and was presented on the PPLG Conference (2018) and To diko mou Festival(2018). It is a performance which explores cultural elements and transforms them into kinetic direction and space structure. In collaboration with George Panopoulos, we create a spatial structure that simulates the immigrants’ or refugees’ journey into a new homeland, taking into consideration the axes of movement that explore the lifestyle of rebetiko*.

*Rebetiko was a subcultural lifestyle from the beginning of the 20th century and, moreover, it was a music genre having influences from traditional music using traditional instruments (like violin or santouri, but also new instruments like bouzouki.)It is associated with a specific music genre and the working class of Asia Minor and Greece. After the Greco-Turkish war, groups of immigrants helped spread rebetiko across Europe and the United States.
